Review:

Maxie's Bar and Grill is a casual offshoot of the steakhouse Angelo and Maxie's which is right around the corner.  The selection of Maxie's Bar and Grill caused a bit of an uproar amongst the BOTM crew, and rightly so, considering how Angelo and Maxie's itself fared and the fact that they share a kitchen.  Nonetheless we were willing to give it a try.

The place itself is nice and bright, and has a small bar area which would be a good place to watch a ball game.  You do not get the impression that you are eating in a steakhouse's sister restaurant.

The burger is 8 ounces of 100% Angus ground beef that is grilled over an open fire.  The burger had nice grill marks and all of ours were cooked to our liking.  The burgers are served in red baskets over nicely made fries so as to give the appearance that you are eating at a diner.  You have your choice of toppings including various cheeses, as well as "specialty burgers" such as the Mexican burger which is wrapped in a tortilla with salsa, and the Oscar Burger which is topped with crabmeat and hollandaise sauce.

While the burgers were cooked and presented well, they did not deliver on taste.  Ours were under seasoned and even those that were cooked to medium rare were a bit dry.  Maxie's had a nice selection of cheese and bacon but they could not help this burger.  The bun, however, held it all together nicely.

Maxie's Bar and Grill's burger ranked near it's older sister restaurant, so at the very least they are consistent.  With lots of other great burgers in the area (Primehouse, Blue Smoke, Houston's) etc., it has a higher bar that it struggles to meet.
